The 4430 can be used for embedments greater than 2 ft. as well. The 4430 separates the first 2 ft. of the post from the soil which is the most critical part of the post. The soil below 18 in. does not contain enough oxygen for wood-eating microbes to thrive and cause rot and decay. The 4430 takes advantage of this fact as a price-leader in the Post Protector product line.
